Sarvashikshaabhiyan Mid-day meal scheme • Providing access to all children in the age group 6-14 years through formal primary schools • Completion of five years of primary education by all children by 2007 • Completion of eight years of elementary education by all children by 2010 • provision of elementary education of satisfactory quality for all by 2010. • One teacher for every 40 students • A school within 1 km of every habitation • Spacious and well lit and well ventilated rooms • Free textbooks • Increasing school enrollment & attendance • Socialization of children irrespective of caste • Addressing malnutrition • Social empowerment of women • Provision of free of cost lunch to all primary school children

UNDP projects that India will achieve the 100% target net enrollment ratio by 2015 Currently, 95.7% of children ages 6-14 years are enrolled in schools; 4.3% are out of school in rural areas; Youth literacy rate has increased 24% since 2000 Net enrolment in primary education: 89% (Ibid.) The 2009, RIGHT of children to free and compulsory education act ensures that more than 8 million children, mostly girls, are now attending school. Achievements
