  3. Intent of a Professional Development Plan • Is to focus professional efforts to further develop the capacity of an educator, by identifying and addressing their needs so that their knowledge and skills are enhanced to better support improved student achievement

  4. Elements of an Individual Professional Development Plan

Essential Components of a PDP • Goals are results orientated rather then process orientated • i.e.. .increase text complexity of informational text & literature rather then implement common core • Activities, actions or strategies that support realization of the goal are defined • Outcomes and evidences are authentic, demonstrable and measurable • Resources and support needed to accomplish the goal are identified • Timeline reflects mid and end of year process check on progress towards goals

  6. Data sources to inform goals for individual PDPs • Summative evaluation from previous school year • Self–assessment • Recent student achievement data • School improvement goals

  7. Effective Professional Development Plans meet the SMART Criteria when applied to the entire plan

Suggested Process for PDP Development • Review data sources and input from administrator • and mentor if appropriate • Identify potential focus areas (2 or 3) • Draft a PDP with all sections completed in NCEES • Mentors can assist Beginning Teachers • Solicit feedback from administrator on draft PDP • Virtually or in conference • Finalize initial PDP • Administrator authenticates, then teacher and • then mentor

NCEES has two types of PDP templates Rollover & Preliminary “Rollover” PDP template was automatically generated at the 2011-12 summative evaluation If a teacher is at the same school and district they where in 2011-12 this will be the PDP template they use If the teacher is new to the profession, transferred in from another school or district, then they will not be able to utilize the “Rollover” PDP and will need to generate a Preliminary PDP PDP templates in NCEES

  10. Accessing your 2012-13 PDP in NCEES 1. Log into NCEES 2. Enter via NCEES icon 3. Select “Observations” 4. Select PDP for 2012-13 1 2 3 4

  11. To Create a Preliminary PDP (Only do this if their isn’t a PDP for 2012-13 or you can’t interact with it.) 1. Log into NCEES 2. Enter via NCEES icon 3. Select “New Preliminary PDP” 4. Select “Next” 1 2 3

  12. To Re-access PDP 1. Log into NCEES 2. Enter via NCEES icon 3. Select “Observation” 4. Select “PDP” 1 2 3

Subject area Plan type: Select “Individual” unless otherwise directed Section A; Professional Development Priorities: Linked to 2011-12 summative evaluation can’t write in this section To be Addressed by the Plan Enter Standards and Elements that you will focus on Section B; Teacher Strategies: Your initial plan

  14. PDP Signature Sequence • Administrator first, then teacher, then mentor if appropriate • Administrator can host authentication process or teacher can log in separately and authenticate teacher portion • Warning: signature of Administrator locks Initial PDP and prevent any additional edits

  15. Mentor; Accessing Beginning Teacher’s PDP • Mentor logs into NCEES • From Observe/Report Select “More” • Select “Rubric for Observing Teachers” • Select name of Beginning Teacher • Access appropriate PDP to review or authenticate

  16. Next steps • Implement PDP strategies and activities • Be prepared to discuss and provide evidence of progress toward goals at Mid –Year review of PDP Questions on process or content of PDP • Contact site administrator for support
