This course examines the complexities of performance management systems and their ability to balance conflicting goals such as quality versus quantity and individual performance versus teamwork. Participants will learn about the Balanced Scorecard framework, including financial and operational measures, and the importance of aligning short-term objectives with long-term effectiveness. Emphasis will be placed on setting specific goals for shareholder satisfaction, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence, alongside Management By Objectives (MBO) principles that encourage participation from all levels of management.

Management By Objectives Specific process to align organizational goals and individual objectives. Instead of just a few top-managers, all managers of a firm participate in the strategic planning process. MBO principles are: • Cascading of organizational goals and objectives, • Specific objectives for each member, • Participative decision making, • Explicit time period, and • Performance evaluation and feedback.
