The Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) is vital for Bismarck State College’s accreditation through the Higher Learning Commission. This document tells BSC’s story in response to the Commission's criteria and is updated annually. The Systems Appraisal evaluates strengths and areas for enhancement, guiding our strategic planning. Through this process, we aim to bolster quality for our students, community, and state, continually striving for excellence.

What is AQIP? • The Academic Quality Improvement Program is a process for demonstrating a college’s commitment to quality • It is the method we use to be an accredited institution through the Higher Learning Commission • AQIP is future-oriented and focused on improvement • Uses action projects
The AQIP Process • Initial self-assessment and application • We participate in Strategy Forums and prepare a Systems Portfolio that is continually updated • We just completed our first Systems Portfolio in June • We received our first Systems Appraisal in October • Every year we complete Annual Updates on our action projects and maintain our Systems Portfolio • Every 7 years we receive Reaffirmation of Accreditation
Systems Portfolio and Systems Appraisal • The Systems Portfolio is a document that tells the story of BSC by answering questions asked by the Higher Learning Commission • The Systems Appraisal is a report prepared by a team of reviewers who read our Systems Portfolio and note strengths and weaknesses • The Systems Appraisal helps us to focus on areas needing improvement
