  11. Attendance and Tardies • It is very important for your child’s success that they start the day on time. • Children must be in their classrooms by the 7:45 bell. If they are not present by 7:45 a.m., they are considered tardy.

  12. Agendas • Your child will bring home his/her agenda on a daily basis. Please check and sign it daily to verify you have viewed it, as it is our most valuable communication tool. You will find all homework assignments, notes from your child’s teacher, as well as the color your child received for the day in the agenda. • It is your child’s responsibility to copy all homework, objectives, and so forth in the agenda.

  13. Agendas Continued • Agendas will not be marked if your child is on green for the sake of preserving instructional time. • It is your child’s responsibility to bring back the agenda everyday. If it is not brought back, it is a color change.

  14. Homework • You will always find the homework assignments written in the student agenda by your child and the agenda should be signed nightly. • Homework should take no more than 60 minutes! If you notice that your child is not able to do an assignment on his or her own, please send a note in the agenda or jot a note on the assignment. 

  15. Wednesday Folders • Graded work and other school-related communications will go home weekly in the Wednesday folder. • Please take time to read the letters and other handouts as they are vital forms of school related communication. • Please sign the signature page and send back to school on Thursdayemptied of all work and other papers. • All school-related communication and notes from Principal Barbarow will be on the school website.

  16. School Items Taken Home • In fifth grade, students are held responsible for assigned textbooks, “Measure Up” workbooks, and any other school items checked out, such as library books and Playaways (digital audiobooks). Students are allowed to take these materials home. However, in the event any of these items become lost or damaged, there will be a charge to cover the cost of a new one.

  17. Late Work Policy • One (1) day late work = color change only • Two (2) days late work = 10 points off • Three (3) or more days late work = highest grade possible 70% • Extenuating circumstances will be reviewed by campus policy.

  18. BehaviorAfter 1-2 warnings a student will receive a color change for breaking a rule. Parents will be notified on a daily basis through the agenda what the color is. Color Code Program “G” – Green = 90% “B” – Blue = 80% “Y” – Yellow = 70% “O” – Orange = 60% Parent Contact “R” – Red = 50% Office Referral Conduct Grade S = 80%-90% N = 70% U = 50-60%

  19. Playground Procedures • Recess is considered part of your child’s 135 minutes of physical education. In order to meet the 135 minutes requirement, students will walk during recess for exercise. However, if a student has good behavior by maintaining a color of green or blue for that day, he/she will get to play on the equipment. If your child is clipped to yellow, they will walk for five minutes. If they are clipped to orange, they will walk for ten minutes. If they are clipped to red, or receive an office referral, they will walk for the duration of their recess.

  20. Cafeteria Procedures • Once your child leaves the lunch line, he/she may not be allowed to go back. • This rule is put in place in order to keep our lunch line moving quickly and smoothly. • Students and parents are not allowed to share or trade food even if it is not opened. Parents may share only with their own child.

  21. Birthdays • No TREATS of any kind including cupcakes may be brought to school. They may not be eaten at any time (including after lunch) according to State Law. • No birthday invitations or balloons may distributed to students.

  22. Uniform Dress • Please view the student handbook for the guidelines. • Shirt Colors: Navy Blue, Red, Yellow, White or School Shirt • Bottoms: Pants, Shorts, Skirts (that reach at least the bottom of the students’ fingertips with shoulders NOT shrugged) • Bottom Colors: Khaki, Navy Blue, or Blue Jeans • NO LEGGINGS of any kind or description.

  23. Transportation If you need to make a transportation change, write a note to your child’s teacher letting him/her know of the changes. If there is a sudden change in transportation while your child is already at school, please call the office before 2 p.m. in order to help your child reach the correct destination. Please do not e-mail these requests or leave a voicemail as we may be out of the classroom on that day. Front office: 832-223-2800

  24. Parent Volunteers • Volunteers are always appreciated! • Please note LCISD is required by state law to obtain criminal history record information on volunteers in the district. • Confidential volunteer forms are available in the office.

  25. Report Cards & Progress Reports • Progress reports are given out at the end of the 4th week! • Report Cards are sent every 9 weeks!

  26. Conference Dates • Conference dates are set for October 26th and 27th. These days are early release days at 11:30 a.m. Please set up a time to conference with your child’s teacher(s). Report Cards will be passed out at this time. • We hope to see you there!!!!!

  27. Communication with Your Child • Communicating with your child is vital for his/her education. • If you notice their grades are low, look at the work that is sent home in the Wednesday folder and review the questions with your child. • More than likely, they can answer your question.
