  2. Rationale forKnowledge Exchange • Despite calls for evidence-based policy, gaps between worlds of research and decision-making • Bridge via 2-way, active cooperation • Some examples: CCL, Levin (OISE) • Bolster research capacity by utilizing policy relevant admin data

  3. Background: Sweet et al study • Link records and survey of TDSB grade 9’s in 2000 to OUAC / OCAC records • Examine post-high school pathways: drop out / graduation / post secondary application / institutional destination • Key predictors: context, individual characteristics, academic performance

  4. Our Knowledge Exchange Goals • Showcase innovative data linking • Researchers: apply similar methods to data from other boards; boost quality of useable data province-wide • Decision-makers: use findings to inform interventions • Data owners: develop protocols for wider usage of data

  5. Key Role of AERO • Occupy role of researcher and board employee • Serve as “knowledge brokers” between groups of stakeholders

  6. Our KE Plans • Hold workshops and meetings • Build electronic supports • Create network of researchers • Use TDSB study as initial template • Spread and share methods, techniques • Create new data-gathering

  7. Agenda • Today: Rob Brown will discuss procedures for data linking • Future: develop protocols to energize research – use and merging data, address security, confidentiality, privacy issues
