  2. In this workshop you will • Add technology requirements to complete development of the High Level Requirements document. • Develop an awareness and understanding of technology implementation costs.

  3. Critical questions to drive your plan • What will teaching and learning look like in your institute of the future? • How can technology support this kind of environment? • How can physical facilities be organized to bring this vision to reality? • How much might it all cost?

  4. ACTIVITY: Making meaning • The following activity will help you to develop and frame questions or ideas that you may have. Step 3. Write down what you would like to explore further - for example, "I wonder if ..." Step 2. Now write down in as much detail as possible what you'd like to find out. Also describe why you think it is so important to find out about this technology. When you have done this, move on to step 3. Step 1. Write in as much detail what you want to know about specific technology e.g. how can blogging help assessment. When you have done this move on to step 2.

  5. ACTIVITY: Look back at your HLR document form SD3

  6. ACTIVITY: Adding technology requirements to your HLR

  7. How much will it all cost? • A critical factor in the adoption of ICT in an institution is cost. Technology is expensive but as Benjamin Franklin said “The only thing more expensive than education is ignorance.” • But what is the true cost of the technology you need? • It is important to understand the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) rather than just the cost of buying resources in the first place. • The resources developed by GESCI (part of the UN ICT Task Force) could help you with this process. • Start by looking at their TCO deploying framework (PDF)

  8. What happens next? • Now you have a completed HLR matrix with the following components fully considered: • Your Vision • You Requirements • Your Professional Learning Requirements • Your Technology Requirements • An understanding of the potential costs • The next step is to identify who you can turn to for help, advice and support. • The SD 5: Communications and Partnerships workshop will help you start this process.
