Determine if additional education or training is needed to achieve these goals • Examine the job qualifications for the position to which you would like to move • If you need to supplement YOUR skills, find out the length of training that you need to acquire (short courses? one-year program required?? Or perhaps an associate or bachelor degree???) • Explore the different schools in your area (check the phone book yellow pages) asking the schools • to send you a catalog, • checking to see if they are accredited • Setting up a meeting with a career counselor may also be an option if you are still unsure to clarify admissions or degree requirements • Check with your local HS or community education departments as they frequently offer programs for the adult learner • “on-line Education” offers convenience of studying at homeand may be a possibility to explore

BE PREPARED!!! • Keep your eCareer profile updated • Have a binder in which to keep any kind of information that would be helpful as you update your profile: letters of commendation, copies of awards, training completion records , League of Postmaster three-digit-meeting/con- ference/convention participation etc.

  7. ARE YOU A.W.A.R.E.? ATTITUDE: Are you positive, outgoing, concerned about the future? Are you inquisitive? Are you ready to take the initiative without having to be asked? WORK RECORD: How’s your sick leave balance? Is your annual leave exhausted by June every year? What are your work habits? Are you early to leave for breaks and ate to come back? Do you allow yourself sufficient time so you don’t end up racing the clock everyday? APPEARANCE: How do you appear to others? Are you neat? What are you doing to be seen by others? Do you have your eCareer profile updated? Are you known by face and name by the “movers & shapers”? RECOGNIZE: Do you recognize the need to become involved ? EDUCATION: Is your schooling sufficient to fulfill the requirements of the job you are seeking? Do you continue to seek educational opportunities thru League?
