  1. L1 - Comparison without stating common criteria Eg Source A says______ but source B does not. States common criteria without supporting from the sources (1-2)

  2. L2 - States differences / similarity in content, supported with evidence from the sources (3-4) L3 - L2 + States differences in Tone/ Purpose, supported & explained using evidence from the sources (4-5)

  3. Both sources focus on the strength of the Japanese Inference

  4. From source A, we can infer that the Axis Powers are stronger than western powers. It is shown that the Japanese tyrannizes over the Western forces. The samurai represents the Japanese powers crushing the Western battle ships which resemble Western powers. The flags of the Axis Powers are seen backing the Japanese destruction of the Western powers.  Does this support the inference? Tyrannizes – wrong word use so makes the answer wrong The last evidence has no relevance

  5. Hence implying that that the Japanese with the Axis powers have a sure win over the Western Powers.  Is the focus clear? Not clear – because inference is on the strength of the Japanese.

  6. From Source B, we can infer that the Japanese succeeded in creating an ‘Asia for Asians’.  Is there a link with the inference? No L1 – 1 mark

  7. Source A is used to glorify the Axis powers thus used to threaten the allied powers. Similarly, Source B is used to threaten the allied powers, trying to force them to give up to the Japanese.  Is this substantiated? L1

  8. Both sources depict the Japanese as superior to the Westerners. In source A, it is shown that the theme is a Japanese samurai who has destroyed warships. This implies that the Japanese were the best among all the countries and dominated them. In Source B, it is shown that a Japanese soldier is breaking a chain bearing the English alphabet, which originated from the West. This implies that the Japanese are stronger than the Westerners. L2 - 3

  9. Both sources focus on depicting the Japanese as superior. In Source A, the Japanese are depicted as almighty and great. The source shows a large samurai warrior destroying ships in the sea; it is also much larger than anything in the poster. This implies that it depicts the Japanese being as mighty and superior above the rest. In Source B, they are depicted as powerful. The source shows a towering Japanese soldier breaking a chain apart; there is a dead European soldier on the ground. This implies that the Japanese possess superior strength, more powerful than the Europeans. In conclusion, these two sources depict the Japanese as powerful and superior above other nations. L3 -4

  10. Both sources are similar in terms of their purpose. In Source A, its purpose is to glorify the Japanese. The source shows the ferocity and power of the Japanese in the form of a samurai warrior. This implies that it commends them for their power. In Source B, its purpose is to compliment them for their power and superiority during the war. In the source, if to shows a large Japanese soldier tearing apart a chain and there is a dead European soldier on the ground. Hence this implies that the Japanese are more mighty and powerful than the Europeans. In conclusion, these two sources glorify the power of the Japanese.  Is there verb + audience + outcome?
