  1. TEK 3.2B • Describe the mathematical relationships found in the base-10 place value system through the hundred thousands place.

  2. Base 10 Block Review 1 Thousands Cube 1 Tens Stick 1 Hundreds Flat 1 Ones Unit Base 10 Block Images provided by Creative Creatures

  3. So that means that relationships between places are based on multiples of 10. • Let’s look at exactly what that means.

  4. Take a few seconds and think about the answer. 1 Tens Stick = 10 Ones Units So we can determine that… 1 Ten is 10 times the value of 1 one. Base 10 Block Images provided by Creative Creatures

  5. Take a few seconds and think about the answer. 1 Hundreds Flat = 10 Tens Sticks So we can determine that… 1 Hundred is 10 times the value of 1 Ten. Base 10 Block Images provided by Creative Creatures

  6. 1 Thousands Cube Take a few seconds and think about the answer. = 10 Hundreds Flats So we can determine that… 1 Thousand is 10 times the value of 1 Hundred. Base 10 Block Images provided by Creative Creatures

  7. So based on what we have learned… • If I have 1 ten thousand, I know that it is equal to how many thousands? • It is the same as 10 thousands. • So we can determine that…. • 1 ten thousand is 10 times the value of 1 thousand.

  8. Answer the following questions. • If I have 1 hundred thousand, I know that it is equal to how many ten thousands? • So we can determine that….

  9. The answers are… • I one hundred thousand is the same as 10 ten thousands. • So we can determine that 1 hundred thousand is 10 times the value of 1 ten thousand.

  10. Let’s Practice! • If you have two of the same digits next to each other in the place value chart then the following rule applies: • The number to the left is 10 times greater than the number on the right. • EXAMPLE: • What relationship does the 3 in the hundreds place have with the 3 in tens place? • The 3 in the hundreds place is 10 times greater than the 3 in the tens place.

  11. Your Turn! • What relationship does the 9 in the hundred thousands place have with the 9 in ten thousands place? • ANSWER: • The 9 in the hundred thousands place is 10 times greater than the 9 in the ten thousands place.

  12. Now that you are done watching this video, watch the example videos I made for you. • Make sure when you do your assignments in Mentoring Minds that they are in order. Meaning you should do assignment #1 first, then #2, and so on. • Remember that if you need help I am available for a video chat Monday- Friday from 1-3 P.M.
