Enduring Understandings • CARE committee has existed for ten years to address the gap in achievement of African American students and promote diversity. • Parents of color are concerned about, and want to support the progress of their children. • Culture plays a critical role in school experience and achievement.

History of CARE • 1996 Former Superintendent Magill listened to concerns of parents and community members • 10 years of work to understand and address the needs of AA students • Serves in an advisory capacity to administration on issues of race and culture • Recent initiatives DVMSAC, summer programs, additional reading and math specialists, minority hiring fair, cultural proficiency leadership,
