  2. Using Nouns • Subject: main noun in sentence • The committee named Batman treasurer. • Subjective complement: when the subject is renamed later in the sentence. Follows a linking verb. • My favorite vegetable is candy corn. • Direct object: receives the action of the verb. • Fallen leaves covered the path. • Appositive: renaming an earlier noun. Offset by commas. • Fred, a trusting fellow, never caught on. • My brother, Billy Bob, is usually annoying.
