  1. How to make a lemon battery.

  2. Materials that you’ll need • AnOLD penny from1976-2001 that contains copper • A steel metal paper clip • A lemon • a battery tester • A knife

  3. Steps • First you cut two holes in the lemon • Then you put the penny on one side and then paperclip on the other side • Then you put the you put the positive wire on the penny then you put the negative wire on the paperclip then you’ll have a battery.

  4. How it works • Here’s how this lemon battery works. There’s a chemical reaction between the steel in the paperclip and the lemon juice. There’s also a chemical reaction between the copper in the penny and the lemon juice. These two chemical reactions push electrons through the wires. Because 2 metals are different, the electrons get pushed harder in one direction then the other. If the metals were the same, the push would be equal and no electrons would flow. The electrons would flow in one direction around in a circle and the come back to the lemon battery.

  5. What are electrons • Electrons are the smallest and lightest subatomic inside every atom. Atoms consists protons ( positively charge) neutrons (no charge ) and electrons ( negatively charge ). You can imagine atoms like a planet which has meteors orbiting around it. The planet represents the nucleus which consists of the protons and neutrons. And the meteors are around representing the electrons. Do to its light weight, electrons move around in an incredible speed around the nucleus. However electrons don’t escape from the nucleus because there bounded by forces that keep them in tracks.
