Center for Joint and Strategic Logistics Education (CJSLE) • Create premier education center to improve joint & strategic logistics education, expertise and competence throughout DoD, interagency and MN communities; synergized, coordinated effort with the community • Milestones: • Center Approved, 21 Jul 08; Official Stand-Up, Oct 08; Fully Operational, May 09; Program Review, Sep 09 • First Year Deliverables: • Conduct “landscape” analysis of logistics education programs (Apr 09) • Develop core joint logistics curriculum (Jun 09), then coordinate with Services/stakeholders to build consensus (Sep 09) • Governance: • Exec Committee: USTC, DUSD-LMR, DLA, NDU-P, JS J4 (annual) • Exec Steering Committee: Co-Chairs: ICAF (Cmdt), NDU CJSL(D), PADUD-LMR; Members: JLB (semi-annual) • Operations: Located at NDU; Modest Budget…approx $1-1.5M/yr • Personnel: Director, 3-4 researchers/officers, 1 admin

Defense Logistics Education Executive Workshop • Senior logistician forum chaired by DJ4 / 3 Oct 0830-1100 @ HQ NDIA • Rep from OSD, USTC, DLA, JFCOM, Services, CJSLE; reps from industry & academia • Discussion Points: • How to best develop future defense logistics leaders, to include leadership & technical competencies (05/06 & civilian counterparts) • How / when to initiate educational, training & developmental opportunities • Potential Workshop Deliverables: • Define defense logistics senior leader competencies & attributes • Determine approach to leverage industry logistics leadership development • Develop model for preparing defense logistics leaders; appropriate mix of education, training & developmental experience • Workshop participants will develop consensus on deliverables, how to best achieve each, and who should be responsible for management • Deliverables from Workshop will drive discussion points / break-out sessions for Joint Logistics Education & Development Forum, 22-23 Oct at Army Logistics Management College

Joint Logistics Education & Development Forum • Hosted by US Army Logistics Mgt College at Ft Lee, 22-23 Oct 08 • Workgroup / auditorium sessions • Opportunity for logistics community to further discuss / develop concepts introduced during the Executive Workshop on 3 Oct • May include: • Defense logistics senior leader competencies & attributes • Leveraging industry logistics leadership development • Define development model for preparing defense logistics leaders • Review Specific Competencies (TBD), match against courses in university / training systems & explore alternatives for reducing gaps • Provide executive summary & matrix of analysis; working tool to help assess logistic training areas

Quadrilateral Logistics Forum (QLF)Logistics Training Requirement Working Group • LTRWG includes logistics training rep from Australia (Chair), UK, Canada & US (JS J4) • WG’s Goal: Produce a Logistics Training Requirement for Coalition Logistic Officers • Explore opportunities to improve MN logistic capabilities • Define training requirements to enable logisticians to operate in the coalition environment • Accomplishments: • Completed revised Terms of Reference and the Coalition Logisticians’ Skills, Knowledge and Experience Framework • Discussed relevance of NATO School courses and UN Operational Logistics Requirements within Coalition Logistics Training… recommended incorporating within training • Reviewed Coalition Logistics Officers Briefing Package (CLOBP); Produced by Australia; unique e-training tool • Mapped Supporting Training Objectives from NATO Logistics Courses to Skills Framework

Quadrilateral Logistics Forum (QLF)Logistics Training Requirement Working Group Working Group Way-Ahead: • Further Develop Skills Framework for each Coalition Logistic Functional Competency (Feb 09 / Present at QLF) • Determine / Finalize Levels of Competence required by appointment / rank of coalition log officers in a MN HQ • Develop additional Supporting Training Objectives for Skills Framework (Sept 09 / Present at COLD) • Develop Implementation Plan to provide completed Skills Framework & Supporting Training Objectives to Coalition Logistics Community (Feb 10 / Present to QLF)

Other Initiatives • Army Developmental Training Assignment / JS J4 Staff • Opportunity to expose GS-12/13/14 to wide-range of logistics management responsibilities at strategic level • Program selectee will be immersed into at least three J-4 divisions, based on core logistic capability areas selectee does not have experience in • Applications due to appropriate Civilian Logistics Career Management Office NLT 15 Oct 08; program start, Jan 09 • If successful, opportunity to expand to all Services • DAU Joint Logistics Continuing Learning Module • Course developed against draft Joint Pub 4-0 (Fall 07); must be updated to reflect final Joint Pub 4-0 (18 Jul 08) • Review to be accomplished early 09, recommend synching with review of ALMC’s Joint Logistics Course

Summary • Center for Joint & Strategic Logistics Education will serve as agency to synergize and coordinate efforts within the community • Defense Logistics Education Executive Workshop will focus on how to best develop future defense logistics leaders • Joint Logistics Education & Development Forum will further discuss / develop concepts introduced during the Executive Workshop • QLF Logistics Requirements Training WG scoped plan to produce a Logistics Training Requirement for Coalition Logistics Officers
