  1. Bermuda Triangle Facts, Mysteries, and Stories

  2. Location Bermuda Triangle is located off the South-Eastern coast of the United States and in the Atlantic Ocean. The three corners of the triangle are: Miami (Florida); San Juan (Puerto Rico); and Bermuda (the north-Atlantic island).

  3. Whatis the Bermuda Triangle? • More than 1000 ships and planes have disappeared in the triangle • Many believe that Devil is at play here and therefore call the area also as Devil's Triangle.

  4. Incidents in the Triangle Flight 19 Flight 19 were training aircrafts of bombers of US Navy that went missing on Dec 5, 1945 while flying over the Atlantic.  They were scheduled to go fly over the line of the Bermuda triangle but strangely they never came back.  Adding to the mystery, two rescue aircrafts with a 13-man crew were sent to search for the missing flights. One never returned and it lost all traces.

  5. Incidents Continued The Ghost Ship • On December 4, 1972 Mary Celeste was found without a single soul on board while she was still sailing. She was located off the coast of Portugal heading towards the Strait of Gibraltar.  • Pirates • No reported incidents of piracy • All the possessions were members • Insurance value was quite modest • There was no storm reported

  6. Background to the Ghost Ship • The First master Robert McLellan fell ill and died.  • Suffered a big damage in her hull after running into a fishing dam off the sea • Fire broke out at the shipyards • Collided in the straits of Dover with a two-masted ship which sank. • Ran aground • She changed owners several time, most of them went bankrupt.

  7. Has the Bermuda Triangle always been mysterious? Christopher Columbus reported “strange lights and strange compass readings” in 1492 What do you think?

  8. 1855 - The schooner James B. Chester was found floating in the ocean. The crew was missing but there was no sign of struggle, and the lifeboats were still in place.

  9. What is the logical explanation? • Science has not been able to explain the mysteries but some theories include: • Strange magnetic anomaly • Methane eruptions from the ocean floor turn the sea into a froth that can't support a ship's weight • The existence of an intelligent, technologically advanced race living in space or under the sea.

  10. More Recent Incidents 1999 - The cargo freighter Genesis sent a radio signal to a nearby vessel, indicating a problem with the bilge pump. Despite extensive searches by the Coast Guard, the ship and crew were never seen or heard from again 1991 - The pilot of a Grumman Cougar jet made a routine radio request to increase altitude. While ascending, the aircraft gradually faded from radar and vanished.

  11. The Mystery is Still Not Solved
