  2. Bell Ringer • Identify the purpose in the following writing prompt: Situation-In March 2011, a tragic event occurred in Japan. Japan was hit with a massive earthquake that was followed by an immense tsunami. Task-Write a letter to the school newspaper explaining what happens in an earthquake and a tsunami. Explain ways our school can help.

To enter your favorite teacher in this contest, you must give reasons for your choice. • Writing Task: Write an article for the school newspaper to persuadereaders to vote for the teacher you chose to win the contest. Be sure to include details that will show why the readers should vote for your choice.
