  3. We Know 1 John 4:13-18

  4. 1 John 4:13-14 We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.

  5. 1 John 4:15-16a If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

  6. 1 John 4:16b-17 God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him.

  7. 1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

  23. What John is affirming is that both he and his readers have come to recognize and believe that God really does love them. Gary Derickson

  24. Of note is the change from the perfect to the present. Though the knowledge and faith of the apostles began in the past, God’s love is always present. Further, God’s love is directed toward the believer. Gary Derickson

  25. Are we reliable? Trustworthy? Consistent? Faithful?

  26. And of this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher. That is why I am suffering as I am. 2 Timothy 1:11

  27. Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day. 2 Timothy 1:12

  32. Is the question of your salvation settled in your heart?

  33. Three groups of people • those who are secure but not sure • those who are "sure" but not secure • those who are secure and sure

  34. Many people are not sure or secure because they focus on themselves or trust themselves more than they trust Christ.

  35. I have an insurance policy Written in the blood of the Lamb, Sealed by the Cross of Jesus, Redeemable wherever I am!

  36. The company will never go bankrupt, It is bonded by God’s promise true; It will keep every word of its contract, Exactly what it says it will do.

  37. I don’t have to die to collect it, No premiums do I have to pay; All I do is to keep God’s promise And walk in His holy way.

  38. No collector will ever come calling, It was paid on Calvary’s tree; It insures me for living and dying And for all eternity.

  41. Although “no one has ever seen God” at any time, we do “see” by faith that the cross lifted up in Palestine was for our sins and for our salvation. Glenn Barker

  43. He will testify about me; but you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning John 15:26b
