While still a teenager, he married Anne Hathaway, a farmer's daughter some years older than himself. They had three children. When he was twenty-one he went to London, leaving Anne and the children at home. 4. He was one of the world's greatest writers. He was born on April 23, 1564 in England. His mother was the daughter of a farmer. His father was a glove-maker. 5. In London he began to act and to write plays and soon became an important member of a well-known acting company. He wrote plays for the famous Globe Theatre. Later he was one of the owners of the Globe Theatre.
