C21CL Key Concepts • 21st Century Teaching & Learning (21CT&L) • Enhances students’ cognitive development • Produces student outcomes that are beneficial in all content areas • E.g.: collaboration, creativity, information literacy, problem solving, innovation, self-directed learning • Cannot be assessed through traditional methods

C21CL Key Concepts • Formative assessment is a key component of 21CT&L • Identifying student need, help students understand criteria • Designing and developing appropriate assessment • Making decisions to improve instruction based on student performance • E.g.: rubrics, goal setting, observations, questioning strategies, self and peer assessment, student record keeping, portfolio

C21CL Key Concepts • Teaching students’ 21st century skills is a significant area of focus in education right now • NAEP • NCLB • Partnership for 21st Century Skills • ISTE National Educational Technology Standards (NETS, NETS*T) • Professional development must be ongoing, sustained and integrated in the teaching experience • Support is needed at all levels to create 21st Century Learning Environments

Goals of C21CL • Improve academic achievement • Students of participating educator teams will improve achievement in assessment of NETS • Summative (Project level, Learning.com) • Formative (Classroom level, team created) • Build educator capacity • Educators will improve in NETS for Teachers and demonstrate formative assessment NM Teacher Competencies (capacity to design and develop learning experiences that support student achievement of NETS) • Ongoing, accessible PD in a variety of formats • Create sustainable PD networks at classroom, PD specialist, and tech coordinator levels • District Coordinators and RETA Instructors will disseminate models, resources, and best practices for supporting 21C T & L environments • Wiki, Conferences, Webinars available to wider network

C21CL RETA Instructor Responsibilities • Commit to C21CL efforts • Participate in 24 hours of professional development with RETA Staff (may include face to face and/or online professional development; will take place over the course of two year; you will be paid by RETA) • Coordinate & deliver 24 hours of on site, face to face professional development and assessment efforts in collaboration with your District Coordinator to your local Educator Team (document PD hours in RETA database) • Attend monthly webinars for developing of 21st century teaching and learning practices (watching webinar archives can also meet this responsibility) • Participate in online community efforts and share PD resources via C21CL wiki • Support educator team in reporting results through webinars or at conferences • Participate in evaluation activities (respond to questions, provide information to evaluators when appropriate) • Optional: Present at C21CL conferences and webinar events (you will be paid by RETA)

C21CL Educator Team Responsibilities • Participate in a minimum of 36 of 46 offered hours of professional development workshops with RETA Instructor over two years 24 hours (equivalent of 4 days) of on site face-to-face workshops      Lead by RETA Instructor      can be done in chunks of time allowed for by school schedules      district coordinators define incentives 12 hours of workshops at 2 of 3 regional conferences (2 days)      Teams are offered the chance to attend 3 conferences      Educator team members are encouraged to attend 2 First conference planned for Dec 5 10 hours of webinar workshops C21CL Educator Webinar Series      Teams may attend together, individually, live or watch the recording      Educators will share responses in the C21CL Community

C21CL Educator Team Responsibilities • Attend monthly workshops & webinars for developing of 21st century teaching and learning practices • Participate in ongoing online community efforts • Develop and implement 21st century learning experiences an assessment methods • Educator teams will develop and implement one lesson  • Conduct formative assessments and implement a plan toimprove student learning • Report on results through webinars or at conferences • Participate in multiple evaluation activities • Respond to questionnaires, participate in interviews and 21st century skills assessment
