Welcome to Mrs. Marotz's Second Grade class! With a background in Elementary Education and Instructional Technology, she has been teaching since 1999. Mrs. Marotz is dedicated to fostering a positive learning environment where students explore math, reading, writing, science, and social studies. She lives in Kernersville with her family and enjoys scrapbooking and ASU football. Expect nightly homework, engaging activities, and valuable volunteer opportunities. Who is Mrs. Marotz? • Appalachian State University ‘95- ‘99 • B. S. Elementary Education • Concentration: Psychology • North Carolina A&T State University ’99- ’02 • M. S. Instructional Technology • Teaching since 1999. • Taught grades K, 9-12 (computers), 2 • Nationally Board Certified Teacher • Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers
Who is Mrs. Marotz? • Live in Kernersville • Married to a Kernersville Police Sergeant • Have a 5 year old daughter named Kelli and a baby boy named Cole. • Dog named Daisy • Love scrapbooking and reading • Love watching ASU football!! Been to all three National Championship Games!!!

What to expect in Second Grade? • Math • Addition and subtraction and begin use of regrouping • Measurement • Graphing • Problem Solving • Time, money, fractions • Reading • Work in small flexible groups working on your child’s reading level • Large group activities involving poetry and reading strategies • Writing • Move from writing 3 sentences to 8 with the use of adjectives, elaboration and detail, and transitional words and phrases • Book publishing • Spelling • Integrated into Reading/Writing time • Science/Social Studies • Sound, weather, matter, lifecycles • Communities, Kenya, Japan, people of long ago, citizenship
Homework? • Homework is done nightly (Monday-Thursday). • Will not be given until after Labor Day. • Take Home Readers will start the week of Labor Day. • Spelling is done nightly. • An activity is also found on a Homework Calendar in the Homework Folder. • Homework passes are good for an entire night of homework.
Lunch? • Lunch is at 11:55 a.m. • Price of lunch for students is $2.35 • Please let cafeteria know if you only allow extras to be purchased on specific days or not at all. • Also let cafeteria know if you have two or more children that can “share” funds. • Prepay! (Lunch link on PGE website)

Tips and Reminders • Packet information and materials due by the end of the 1st week. • Birthday snacks/any snacks for class are to be prepackaged/professionally prepared. • Outside Recess is everyday with the following exceptions: • Ozone advisory of Code Orange or higher. • Below 35 degrees • Inclement weather • Join the PTA. • Collect those boxtops!
