Corporate Wetlands Restoration Partnership CWRP Mission Protect, enhance and restore wetlands and other aquatic habitats by partnering to leverage the collective resources, skills and processes of the private and public sectors History 1999 Massachusetts New England National Today Structure • CWRP is a program of the Coastal America Foundation (CAF), a public charity recognized by the IRS under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code • Program oversight is provided by a CAF Board subcommittee • (Duke Energy, The Gillette Company, FMC, Battelle, ENSR, National Association of Manufacturers, Restore Americas Estuaries, The Nature Conservancy) • Program implementation is accomplished mainly through state chapters, each with a corporate lead • Companies donate money and in-kind services and work in partnership with Coastal America and others 06/01/05
Benefits of Participation to Companies • Contribution to improvement of critical habitats which provide both ecological and commercial value • High leverage of stewardship dollars through “matching” funds approach • Ability to donate in-kind resources, as well as money • Enhanced working relationships with government agencies, conservation organizations and others • Positive recognition and public relations • Employee pride / alignment with company values 06/01/05
Coastal America • Purpose • Established by a memorandum of understanding during the George H.W. Bush Administration to protect, preserve and restore the nation's coastal ecosystems by coordinating efforts amongst federal, state local and tribal governments and the private sector. CWRP Status & Results Partners State CWRPs • More than 200 companies, which have pledged several million in $ & in-kind services • More than 100 other partners (non-profits, agencies, etc.) • Active in 13 states • Alaska • California • Connecticut • Delaware • Georgia • Maine • Massachusetts • New Hampshire • New Jersey • New York • Rhode Island • Texas • Virginia Projects • Over 100 projects supported, thus far • About half of those complete, the other half in-progress or planned 06/01/05
