  1. WIC Recipe Contest Exciting Flavors of the New Food Package Sponsored by Dairy Council of Arizona Presented by Taffery Lowry WIC Nutrition Program Consultant Arizona Department of Health Services

  2. Project Purpose • Provide WIC families with quick and easy recipes to incorporate the new foods and flavors from the food package into their diet.

  3. Recipe Contest Overview • Contestants will develop quick and easy recipes • All recipes must include foods from the new WIC package • Ingredients/foods not from the WIC package must be common foods typically found in a WIC household • All recipes must meet specific nutrition guidelines to qualify for the contest • All qualified recipes will be compiled into a recipe book to be distributed with the launch of the new WIC food package

  4. Nutrient Criteria • All recipes must meet either or both of the following nutrient criteria: • 3-A-Day of Dairy nutrition guidelines • Fruits and Veggies More Matters recipe guidelines • Dairy Council will analyze all recipes using ESHA Food Processor program • Recipes meeting either nutrient criteria will be considered “Qualified Recipe Entries”

  5. Categories • Healthy Snacks • Easy Meals • Quick Side Dishes • Healthy Dessert

  6. Who can submit recipes? • Culinary students • Professional/amateur chefs • WlC clients

  7. Taste Testing Event • March or April of 2009 (Date TBD) • Event Location (TBD) • Entrants will prepare their recipe(s) on site • WIC clients will be the judges • Prizes will be awarded for the top 3 entries in each category • WIC clients will also receive a gift for their participation as judges

  8. Timeline • Sept. 08 - Jan 09 - Entry Submission • Jan 09 - March 09 - Recipe Analysis • Spring 09 - Taste Test Event

  9. Contest Prizes • All contestants submitting qualified recipes will receive a $10 iTunes gift card for each qualified recipe. • Top 3 winners in each category will receive a Visa gift card: • 1st place - $100 • 2nd place - $50 • 3rd place - $25
