  1. Electronic Permitting – Digital Mapping Guidelines presented to: March 9, 2011 by: Leslie, S. Vincent, P.E., Technical Services Manager

  2. Electronic Permitting – Digital Mapping Guidelines Standards pertain to the production and submittal of electronic CAD files and associated Adobe (.pdf) files for Electronic Permitting. The standards are a minimum requirement for the submission of digital maps.

  3. Electronic Permitting – Digital Mapping Guidelines Details regarding the Guidelines can be found in Guidance Memorandum 27-09

  4. Electronic Permitting – Digital Mapping Guidelines • FILE FORMAT • AutoCAD.dwg • Microstation.dgn

  5. Electronic Permitting – Digital Mapping Guidelines • FILE FORMAT • CAD files are to be attached to section 21.5 of the Electronic Permit application.

  6. Electronic Permitting – Digital Mapping Guidelines FILE FORMAT All CAD files must be accompanied with a complete matching set of Adobe (.pdf) drawings. Adobe (.pdf) files = Digital Hardcopy Adobe (.pdf) files are to be attached in section 21.2 of the Electronic Permitting application

  7. Electronic Permitting – Digital Mapping Guidelines • Drawing Content • VA DMLR has developed CAD standards for all required maps in an Electronic Permitting application. • These CAD standards were developed by a workgroup consisting of: • VA DMLR Technical Reviewer’s (by discipline) • A. Engineering • B. Hydrology • C. Geology • D. Soils • E. Mapping • Coal Industry Representatives • A. Coal Company’s • B. Consultant’s

  8. Electronic Permitting – Digital Mapping Guidelines CAD Standards WorkgroupMapping Protocols • Map Types • File Naming Conventions • Layer Naming Guidelines • Layer Property Guidelines • Standard Templates

  9. Electronic Permitting – Digital Mapping Guidelines Map Types 28 CAD standard template files (.dwt) developed for the required maps in an Electronic Permit application. Anniversary - Application – Blasting – Completion – Correction – Deletion - Environmental Resources – Geology - Geologic Cross Section - GIS Extraction – Haulroad - Hollow Fill - Incremental Bonding - Land Use – Mitigation – Operations - Phase I Bond Release - Phase II Bond Release – PMLU – Ponds - Prior Disturbance –Relinquishment – Renewal – Soils - Surface Water Hydrology – TMDL - Typical Cross Section - Valid Existing Rights

  10. Electronic Permitting – Digital Mapping Guidelines Example of Anniversary Map template file (.dwt) Standard Anniversary Map Layers Standard Topographic Basemap Layers Company Specific Layers

  11. Electronic Permitting – Digital Mapping Guidelines File Names New Permit: Application#_applicmap.dwg / 1004648_applicmap.dwg Application#_swhmap.dwg / 1004648_swhmap.dwg Existing Permit: Revision#_revmap.dwg / 1007825_revmap.dwg Revision#_geomap.dwg / 1007825_geomap.dwg

  12. Electronic Permitting – Digital Mapping Guidelines Layer Naming Guidelines The first 4 letters of the layer name are an acronym for the agency name and the second part of the layer name is a description of what should be contained on that layer.

  13. Electronic Permitting – Digital Mapping Guidelines Layer Property Guidelines Everything in a drawing is associated with a layer and every layer is assigned certain properties. Listed below are the properties which have guidelines defined for certain layers within our standard. • Text Styles • Hatch Styles • Line Color • Line Type • Line Width

  14. Electronic Permitting – Digital Mapping Guidelines Check CAD Drawings for Standard Violations Check Standards allows you to audit a drawing file and check for violation of standards. CAD standard violations will be commented on during the review process of any permit application.

  15. Electronic Permitting – Digital Mapping Guidelines CAD Standards and layer descriptions can be downloaded from DMME’s FTP server: ftp://mail.dmme.virginia.gov/DMLR/downloads/EP/cad_standards/
