  2. The Three Institutions Ordained of GodSo, what purposes does God have for: • To be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, Gen.1:27-28a • To subdue and rule over it, Gen.1:28b • To provide for his own, and to share with others in need, 1Tim.5:8 and Eph.4:28 • To bring up children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord, Eph.6:4 • And in a “big picture” kind of way, to build and maintain a spiritual legacy of righteousness and justice, Gen.18:19. Family?

  3. The Three Institutions Ordained of GodSo, what purposes does God have for: • To rule with God’s authority, Rom.13:1-2; • To provide security for the good, Rom.13:3-4a • To punish evil, Rom.13:4b • To serve God by serving those under them, Rom.13:5-6 • And in a “big picture” kind of way, carry out God’s providential plans, Dan.2:21; 4:17. Government?

  4. The Three Institutions Ordained of GodSo, what purposes does God have for: In “big picture” ways: • To make known the wisdom of God, Eph.3:10 • To be the pillar and support of truth, 1Tim.3:15 How, more specifically? • Through evangelism- preaching the word internally and externally, 2Tim.4:2 • Through edification- teaching the word, 1Tim.4:12-16 • Through benevolence- living the word, 1John 3:10-18 Church?

  5. The Three Institutions Ordained of GodNow, what’s the point for all of this regarding… Family? Church? Government? • Each institution God ordained has a specified purpose. • Though there may be some minor overlapping, none should endeavor to fulfill any purpose but its own. • Though we, as individuals, have responsibilities toward each of these institutions, we must be able to distinguish our roles in them separately.
