Rye Grass!. Rye grasses were brought to the U.S. from Europe. There are two basic types of rye grass: Annual ryegrass and Perennial ryegrass. Annual ryegrass is one of the most used seeds for lawn and pasture purposes. Annual ryegrass is seeded yearly and lives for one season.

  1. Rye Grass! Rye grasses were brought to the U.S. from Europe. There are two basic types of rye grass: Annual ryegrass and Perennial ryegrass

  2. Annual ryegrass is one of the most used seeds for lawn and pasture purposes. Annual ryegrass is seeded yearly and lives for one season. Annual ryegrass is the number one seller worldwide, because it is cheap, easily seeded, and is easily established and harvested.

  3. Perennial ryegrass is a cool season rye grass. It is one of the best lower maintenance grasses. Perennial ryegrass is one of the toughest and most wearable turf covers. Perennial ryegrass is often added to Kentucky bluegrass to add strength and give bluegrass time to repair while the perennial is in full growth.

  4. Ryegrasses are fine-leaved bunch grasses that spread by above ground tillers. Ryegrasses posses little drought tolerance and must be irrigated during dry periods to ensure survival. Ryegrasses have become popular for over-seeding athletic fields, golf courses, and lawns during the winter months. At least 50 improved ryegrass varieties have been developed over the past 20 years.

  5. Ryegrass is the fastest germinating grass, which makes it a quick cover grass. Since ryegrass is such a fast grower it is used as forage grass, grazing, hay and silage, erosion control, and in wildlife enhancing mixtures. When planting ryegrass the seed should be planted at ¼ inch deep. You should plant 10-20 pounds per acre.
