Sentence #2 Students, authors sometimes use groups of words that have a special meaning. They do this to be more descriptive. We call these groups of words idioms. Recognizing and explaining the meaning of idioms will help you understand what a writer is trying to describe. 1 Sarah’s mom likes to go to bed early, but her dad is a night owl.
