WELCOME GUESTS NOVEMBER COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT Hello All Members, The Kiwanis Club of Jacksonville Beaches has volunteered to participate in BEAM's 2009 Thanksgiving Baskets to needy families at the Beaches. The following is a recommended list of items for a family Thanksgiving basket.   Please feel free to add whatever you may wish.  Packages of rice of mashed potatoes Packages of macaroni and cheese Cans of green beans Cans of other kinds of vegetables Cranberry sauce Jars of turkey gravy Bags of stuffing Packaged cookies or cake $10.00 Grocery gift certificate to purchase a turkey PLEASE BRING ANY FOOD  ITEMS YOU WISH TO DONATE TO OUR KIWANIS MEETING ON THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 12. INVOCATION To The KIWANIS CLUB OF JACKSONVILLE BEACHES Heavenly Father, Teach us to set aside our wants for this day and make it a better day for someone else. Registration: 8:30 am, Tee off: 9:30am Shotgun Start, 2:30pm Buffet Lunch and Awards GUEST SPEAKER ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL DCM Last Thursday, October 29, the eight Division 5 clubs gathered for our quarterly Division Council Meeting (DCM) at Zaharias Restaurant in St. Augustine. A sumptuous dinner was enjoyed by all. Updates on Division 5 clubs and Division 5 business were presented and, guess what?--we adjourned and were out-of-there by 8:15 PM.   Beaches Kiwanis attendance included  President Doris Barnes, John Bates, Bill Montgomery, Debbie Johnson, Neil Powell, Joe Overby, and Nancy Bernard.  Incidentally, you may be hearing details about a report and a challenge made at the DCM about a  potential "hands-on" project with children--the  Nemours Bright Star Program. Bill Montgomery KIWANIS EDUCATION Kiwanis International’s continuing service focus is called “Young Children: Priority One” This program seeks to serve the special needs of young children from prenatal development to age 5 in four areas: maternal and child health; child care and development; parent education and support; and safety programs and pediatric trauma care.
