The project aims to create a web-based repository, WReSTT-CyLE, that offers vetted software testing materials and tools to enhance classroom learning for undergraduate students. Key objectives include increasing access to testing tools, improving instructors' knowledge, and fostering student skills in software testing methodologies. It will engage corporate sponsors, promote career paths, and support professional development. The initiative emphasizes simple learning objects, solid educational foundations, and the connection between academic exposure and industry mastery.

Genesis … The long-term goal of our project is to develop a web-based repository model that contains vetted learning material to support software development, in particular tools developed by third parties, to support the educational activities in the classroom. 2008 CCLI proposal
Project Objectives • Increase the number of users that have access to vetted software testing tools in a single repository. • Provide a forum for instructors to improve their knowledge of software testing and testing tools to support pedagogy. • Students who use WReSTT tools for CS1-CS3 class assignments shall: • Improve their conceptual understanding of the approaches used to test software. • Improve their practical software testing skills using the testing tools in WReSTT.
Evolution: WReSTT/CyLE Project Goal: Create new learning materials and develop faculty expertise to significantly increase the number of undergraduate students who are exposed to testing methodologies and testing tools in undergraduate courses.
Project Objectives (evolved) • Transform WReSTT into a cyber-learning environment – Web-based Repository of Software Testing Tutorials: A Cyber-Learning Environment (WReSTT-CyLE) • Create new software testing Learning Objects • Foster student acquisition of software testing concepts/skills in upper-level undergraduate courses with a programming component. • Promote and disseminate.
Accomplishments • CCLI project validated by TUES II award • Engaged corporate sponsors • Provide students career paths • Key technical resource • Growing academic community • Professional development • Path to publication, funding • Populating repository with learning resources
Some Realities • Testing means different things to different stakeholders, but there are fundamentals • Concepts should trump tools • Exposure is the goal in academia; mastery is the goal in the workplace • Education vs training • Don’t overlook value of small exposures • Simple learning objects first
We’re on Solid Footing!! • Dr. Clarke’s leadership • Strong evaluation team promotes solid scholarship • Opportunities to experiment and publish • Prospect of making our programs more attractive to industry!
