  3. What is within an acceptable business risk profile?

  4. What is in there that we can’t see?

  5. Example of vineyard variability High vigour Low vigour

  6. Infrared Remote Sensing Imagery • The remote sensing imagery is produced taking satellite captured infra red reflections and grading all vines/plants into 5 vigour or biomass classes. • The Red areas are the most vigorous and the blue representing the poorest growth.

  7. Examples of what varying ‘greenness’ indexes look like Blue Low vigour Red High vigour

  8. 2004 Post-Mulch 2003 Pre-Mulch Pellatised Straw Mulch Composted Green Organic Mulch

  9. Semillon single year turn around in block relative vigour 2004 pre-mulch 2005 post-mulch Relatively weak Semillon 14 months post application of 100 m3/ha of composted mulch

  10. What is the difference between these vines - 2 rows apart? Red High vigour Blue Low vigour Composted Mulch 14 months post application Control

  11. Commercial outcomes 12 10 8 6 Tonnes per hectare 4 2 0 Composted Organic Mulch Control 20.9% increase in mean yield of mulched verses control vines Financial considerations in determining simple payback. Cost of CGOM including application $2,490/ha Significant increase in yield 1.97 t/ha Average price per tonne of grapes $1200/t Both parcels of fruit achieved the same quality specifications Potentially a single year return on investment!
