  3. WHY GBS SECURITY? • We are based in Triangle Industrial area and is the security service provider for the Triangle Industrial CID since 1st March 2011. • We have patrol vehicles operating in the CID 24 hours a day. Our response time to any complaint, alarm or emergency is therefore no longer than 90 seconds. • We make sure that all our security officers are highly trained, do not have criminal records and are registered with the proper security authorities. All our security officers are equipped with a hand radio, baton, hand cuffs, pepper spray and flashlight. • Our guards are under 24 hour supervision and backed up by a senior staff member who is just around the corner.

  4. PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP • We strive to build personal relationships with the business owners in the CID. • We make a point to ask property owners if there are any complaints or suggestions. • Immediate response to all complaints or information received. • We have an open door policy for suggestions or complaints.

  5. SWIFT RESPONSE • We have an agreement with POPE Alarms for swift response to all burglar and panic alarms in the CID. • We respond swiftly to emergency calls, even though it’s sometimes not regarding criminal activities. • We contact emergency services in case of incidents and standby with support until emergency services arrive. • We help with any evacuation in the CID area and assist with a broader evacuation plan.

  6. AFTER HOURS IN THE CID • We give assistance to business owners that need security at opening and closing times or in the event of after hour departures. • When a vehicle should break down, we standby until help arrives. • When there is a gathering of guests in the CID, we make frequent rounds to check that the vehicles and guests are safe.

  7. ADDITIONAL SECURITY MEASURES • We take photos of all suspicious people and vehicles and circulate it to our staff. • We identify “hot spots” and visit the identified areas frequently. • All electrical sub stations, perimeter fences and railway lines are regarded as top priority “hot spots” and are visited at least six times during a shift. • Photos of all “hot spots” are taken and given to the CID manager to bring under the attention of the business owner. • We liaise with various law enforcement agencies regarding crime in the CID. • We provide investigation into any criminal activity reported by our clients. • We supply security officers on short notice to safeguard vacant or high risk premises.

  8. ARRESTS • An arrest that results in prosecution is a personal victory for GBS Security and we motivate and thank our staff with a bonus. • PROBLEM WITH SUCCESFULL PROSECUTION • Many owners or tenants do not want criminal cases and therefore suspects cannot be brought before court • Accused are given bail and the next day they are back on the street committing the same offences • Complainants loose interest in case after numerous postponements by the court and cases are then withdrawn

  9. CRIME REPORTED TO SAPS 2006 - 2013 • The crime reported to the SAPS takes a drastic fall in 2011. • So far this year a total of 31 crimes were reported to the SAPS • During August and September 2013 an increase in crime were experienced and GBS • took the initiative to supply an extra patrol vehicle at own cost. This had very • good results.

  10. REPORTED INCIDENTS BY SECURITY 2009 - 2013 • The number of suspicious persons and vehicles checked had a drastic incline • since 2011. • No more trolleys found in CID • Remarkable decline in number of drunkenness/drinking in public • Many cases do not get reported to the SAPS

  11. THE WAY FORWARD • PETER BARLOW ROAD FENCE • This is the only side of the triangle that is not secured by fencing. • Fencing this area off will ensure the following: • Access to the CID will only be possible via three controlled access points. • Controlled observation of vehicles and people • Fewer escape routes for criminals • The total distance of the area to be fenced is 575 m • The estimated cost of the fence will be R 400 000-00

  12. Proposed fence start at the bridge at Voortrekker Road Past the BP Garage to the power station Past the power station towards Chris Steydler End at Chris Steydler

  13. INSTALLATION OF CAMERAS • Three access point are identified: • Bridge Road entrance • Electron Road entrance • Uranium Road gate • Installation of cameras at access points will ensure the following: • Remote access monitoring • Feeling of security • Deterrent for criminals • It is proposed that a total of five remote cameras be installed. • Monitoring will be done by security. • The estimated cost is R 150 000-00

  15. HELP GBS SECURITY TO MAKE YOUR BUSINESS SAVER • It is the responsibility of each business owner and tenant to do • everything in their power to help fight crime. • Do not encourage the collection of scrap at your premise – especially on Thursdays (garbage day) • Valuables given to some-one must be accompanied by a letter on the companies letterhead • Do not leave valuables laying around in office • Do not leave valuables in your vehicle • Make sure all doors and windows are locked when leaving • Premise must be secured by burglar bars, safety gates and efficient lighting

  16. GBS Security thank the Board of Directors and Members for the opportunity to be the security service provider for Triangle Industrial City Improvement District
