  2. Adding –ed means past tense or that something has already happened. Rules of adding -ed • When a short vowel is followed by one consonant at the end of the base word, double the last consonant before adding –ed. • Silent final e must be dropped from the base word before adding -ed. • VVC words do not change before adding -ed.
