  1. ACTION PLAN AdilaSalman Junior V s Mathematics The City School Junior C North Nazimabad

  2. DECIMALS

  3. Long Term Goals To strengthen the theoretical and practical knowledge of our students regarding the decimal numbers by giving them opportunities to study to see ,hear and deal with decimal numbers.

  4. Short Term Goals • Students will be able to: • Identify the purpose of using decimals. • Recognize connections between decimal numbers and place value. • Write whole numbers as decimals. • Apply reading and writing of decimals to complete exercises. • Compare two decimals using a place-value chart. • Apply the procedure for ordering three or more decimals to complete exercises. • Perform addition of two or more decimals to find the sum. • Perform subtraction of decimals • Perform multiplication of decimals • Perform division of decimals

  5. Bloom’s Taxonomy A committee of colleges, led by Benjamin Bloom (1956), identified three domains of educational activities: Cognitive: mental skills (Knowledge) Affective: growth in feelings or emotional areas (Attitude) Psychomotor: manual or physical skills (Skills) Trainers often refer to these three categories as KSA (Knowledge, Skills, and Attitude). This taxonomy of learning behaviors can be thought of as “the goals of the learning process.” That is, after a learning episode, the learner should have acquired new skills, knowledge, and/or attitudes. Cognitive Domain The cognitive domain (Bloom, 1956) involves knowledge and the development of intellectual skillsThere are six major categories, which are listed in order below, starting from the simplest behavior to the most complex. The categories can be thought of as degrees of difficulties. That is, the first ones must normally be mastered before the next ones can take place.

  6. Use of Blooms Taxonomy Key Terms Topic Use of Bloom’s Taxonomy Remembering DecimalCollecting decimal values from different sources (newspapers, magazines etc) and sharing with the class and recalling the use of decimal in daily life situations Understanding Decimal Focusing the teacher’s explanation regarding systems, comparing , conversions, four operations grasping the concepts. Understand uses and implications of terms, facts, methods, procedures, concepts

  7. Key Terms Topic Use of Bloom’s Taxonomy ApplyingDecimal They will add the prices of the items as they shop and subtract their totals from the amounts of money that they have left. Analyzing Decimal Students will record temperatures for two weeks. They will display their data, analyze it and then make predictions on the weather for the future week. Basing their estimations on the prior two weeks worth of data, the students use higher thinking skills to create their guesses. l

  8. Key Terms Topic Use of Bloom’s Taxonomy Evaluating Decimal Students can critically examine their work Creating Decimal Putting information together in a new and creative way. Create new problems with their solutions

  9. Instructional Strategies and Tasks • Introduction of the topics will be started using their past knowledge and the topics will be extended with new applications and methods involved . • Students will be asked to collect decimal numbers through different sources(e.g. newspapers, magazines , books etc) • The collected resource will be shared with the class. The place values of the number system will be reinforced. • An activity for the application domain will be done by preparing a fake demonstration of shopping. They will add the prices of the items as they shop and subtract their totals from the amounts of money that they have left. • Students will apply their understanding skills in the situations given and move towards higher order thinking skills.

  10. Instructional Strategies and Tasks • Analyzing the temperature of two weeks will enhance their higher order thinking skills. They will collect and compare the two weeks temperature record and guess the coming week’s temperature. • They will utilize their critical thinking skills and evaluating their performance which will lead to creating new questions, problems and their solutions. • Adopted activities will focus on decimals and emphasis will be given on understanding a variety of problem solving strategies and word problems in groups or pairs. • Group work and pair work will be encouraged to promote collaboration skills

  11. Topic • Decimal • Place value • Conversion • Comparing • Ordering • Four operations • Multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100 • 21st Century Approach used • Giving Direct Instruction • Listening and speaking • Observing and monitoring • Questioning • Encouraging • Intervening • 21st century skills • Developed • Listening • Speaking • Sharing • Participating • Developing questions • Finding answers • Relationship • Problems • Children may be reluctant to speak up • All the students may not participate in groups • Solutions • Encouraging skill will help the teacher to motivate them • Monitoring, observing and assigning task to each child in group according to their capability will work here

  12. Application of Blooms Taxonomy in the Topic • Topic : Decimal • Sub Topics: Place value , Conversions, Comparing, Rounding off, Ordering, Four operations Learning Outcomes: By the end of the month students will be able to: • Write the numbers after decimals and before decimals at their correct place • Compare the decimal numbers • Round off the tenth and hundredth place • Organize numbers in ascending and descending order • Add the numbers with 2 dp. and 3 dp. vertically • Subtract the numbers with 2 dp. and 3 dp. vertically

  13. Multiply a decimal number by whole number and decimal number • Divide a decimal number by whole number • Multiply and divide by 10 and 100 • Analyze the decimal values and interpret the results

  14. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT • My heartiest thanks to all for providing me this valuable opportunity :- • My Headmistress Mrs. Saba Khalid. • My Colleagues • Master Trainers. • Intel Course Planner.

  15. CONCLUSION With the application of Bloom’s Taxonomy and 21st century skills into the classroom, my students’ learning will be strengthened and they will have better understanding of the concepts.
