  1. Program Evaluation Workshop Overview of the Site Visit Process Rita Marie Cain Professor of Business Law, Bloch School

Timing and Scheduling of Site Visit • Usually between the last week of January and mid-April. • Notify the PEC Site Visit Chairperson and the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs Administrative Staff (Amy Watson) by December for dates when the department chair/program directors &/or significant faculty will be unavailable (conference travel, for example). • Vice Provost for Academic Affairs Administrative Staff contacts external reviewers and schedule site visits. • Visit covers 1-2 days.

  3. Highlights of a Typical Site Visit • Entire Team meets with Dean • Entire Team meets with department chairs &/or program directors. • Entire Team lunches with available faculty (consult reimbursement policy). • Team members meet with faculty - tenured, non-tenured and adjuncts - separately. • Team members meet with UG students • Team members meet with graduate students, esp. GTAs or GRAs. • Entire Team conducts exit interview with Provost, Dean and chair/program directors.

  4. Other Possible Sessions • Team members observe classes or other student activities. • Team members available to meet confidentially with any student or faculty.

  5. Executive Sessions by Site Visit Team • Beginning Day 1: Identify issues from the self-study that need investigation or further data. • End of Day 1: Review findings from the day and adjust agenda for Day 2 meetings, if necessary. • After Day 2 sessions: Discuss findings and preliminary conclusions before exit interview with Provost, Dean and chair.

  6. After the Site Visit • External Chair circulates draft report to entire Site Visit Team. • Team provides comments (usually before end of semester). • Draft of Site Visit Report is sent to the department chairperson for fact check, then returned to External Chair for final edits. (Please copy Vice Provost for Academic Affairs Administrative Staff, Amy Watson, on all communications) • Final Site Visit Report forwarded to PEC, Provost, Dean and department (May-June). • Provost meets with PEC Site Visit Team Chairperson (May-June).          • Provost meets with Dean and Department Chairperson to review draft of improvement plan based on site visit report (May-June). • Departments present improvement plans to PEC (subsequent academic year).
