  2. There are different types of lights on a car... • Headlights • Driving lights- these lights are standard and mandatory on all cars today, always on front of the car and have both high and low beams depending on the circumstances • Fog Lights- Can sometimes be offered as extra feature, These lights are designed to be aims low at the road to maximise visibility in fog, snow or heavy rain. • Dim lights- Are used when your full beam is not necessary or even dangerous. • Cornering lights • Spot lights- Found on police and emergency vehicles • Parking lights • Directional indicators • Tail lights • Brake Lights • Rear fog lights • Reversing lights

  3. There are different types of bulbs for your car... • Incandescent- These were the first type of bulbs for the headlights not durable and would commonly stop working when in rain or wind • Halogen- type of incandescent light, with a metal background that directs light in more specific directions • HIDs- High Intensity Discharge or Xenon is much brighter than previous lights, lasts longer, first manufactured by BMW • LEDs- Light Omitting Diodes are far more advanced than the other lights providing extreme luminosity, long-lasting qualities

  4. Driving at Night • Make sure your lights, indicators, reflectors and number plate is clean and in good working condition so you can be seen clearly at all times. • Clean your windscreen • Drive at a speed that allows you to stop within the distance covered by your lights • Keep your headlights adjusted properly, if they are out of line they are less effective and can blind oncoming traffic • Watch out for pedestrians and cyclists , there are difficult to see in there dark especially if there is a glare of oncoming traffic.

  5. When to use your Headlights • If conditions require you to use your headlights then you must use them. Use dipped headlights at night or main beam lights when needed. • When in doubt, turn them on. • Make sure that the red lights and number plate lights are working.

  6. Use Dipped Headlights when... • Just after dusk and before the end of dawn of the lighting up hours • As long as they are needed to let you see clearly • When stopped at traffic lights • Meeting other traffic • In built-up areas with good street lighting • On continuously lit roads • Following behind other vehicles • Where there is dense fog, snow or heavy rain • When daylight is fading • To avoid inconveniencing other traffic

  7. Use Main Headlights when.. • In places, situations and times where the dim or fog lights are not needed or necessary Use Fog lights when... • Only during dense fog and falling snow, You Must turn them off at all other times.
