  4. Discuss/Define Terms • Instrument (your definition) – • Instrument of Measurement (noun)– A device/tool for measuring the present value of a quantity under observation

  5. Discuss/Define Terms • Accurate/Accuracy (Your definition) – • Accurate/Accuracy (adjective/noun)– measurement that follows a current rule, model or standard; precise

  6. Set up Lab in Journal • Hypothesis: • Mass • Procedure: • Number and leave room for 5 steps • Data: • Paper • Fold • Label Categories: • Samples 1st Estimate 2nd Estimate Mass • Samples 1st Measurement Length

  7. Shutter Fold • Fold in Half • Open up, fold sides to the middle line

Procedure – Part 1 • Step 1: • Without lifting or handling the objects in your bag, estimate their mass in grams. • Record your data in the upper part of your Data Table under 1st Estimate • Step 2: • Lift each object up and handle them to estimate the mass of each in grams. • Record your data in the upper part of your Data Table under 2nd Estimate

  9. Procedure • Step 3: • Learn How to Use a TBPB • Use a Triple Beam Platform Balance to calculate the actual mass of each object • Record your data in your Data Table under Mass

Procedure – Part 2 • Step 4 • In this step you will measure the length of each object • HOWEVER, you may NOT use a standard unit (cm, in, etc.) you MUST use unconventional units • Horse length – 13 index nails • Record your data in the lower half of your Data Table under 1st Measurement • Step 5 • Measure the length of each object with a standard unit of measurement – cm on a ruler • Record your data in the lower half of your Data Table under 2nd Measurement

  11. Analyze data • Pick up Data Analysis Sheet and complete with partner at your Lab Station
