About United Way of the Quad Cities Area • Everyone deserves opportunities to have a good life: a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement and good health. • That’s why the United Way of the Quad Cities Area focuses on Education, Income and Health – the building blocks for a good quality of life. About United Way of the Quad Cities Area • United Way brings together people and organizations with the passion, expertise and resources needed to get things done. • You can get involved by giving, advocating and volunteering. That’s what it means to Live United. United Way of the Quad Cities Area

  4. Education From the time children are born through high school graduation, United Way is there to make sure our youth succeed. Initiatives include: • Achieve Quad Cities: Community collaboration to increase the graduation rate by five percent over ten years. • Imagination Library: Mailsa free book each month to over 10,000 children birth to age five. • Operation READ: Volunteers visit over 400 children to get them excited about reading. • Pohlmann Backpack Project: Over 1,300 children receive a free, age-appropriate book quarterly along with their backpack of food.   5. Education • We meet immediate needs through the Funded Programs, which get children ready for school, help improve their school performance and build character. United Way of the Quad Cities Area

Income For families and people on the path to financial stability, we are there to help them become financially independent. • Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program • Free tax preparation for individuals and families with a household income of $49,000 or less. Over 6,000 returns completed and over $5 million in refunds. • We meet immediate needs through the Funded Programs, which help people build skills, gain access to services like rent assistance and help seniors become self-sufficient. Health We work to improve the overall health of our community. • United Way is working with local partners to identify ways to increase access to youth mental health services. • We meet immediate needs through the Funded Programs, which improve health, address substance abuse and parenting.   8. How You Can Get Involved We are connected and interdependent. We all win when a child succeeds in school, when families are financially stable and when people are healthy.
