Lotusvoeten • Lotusvoeten waren kleine voeten van vrouwen uit China. Tijdens de Sung-dynastie (960-976 voor Christus) was daar een schoonheidsideaal van kleine voeten ontstaan. Om dat te bereiken werden de voeten strak ingebonden met stof, opdat ze zeer kort zouden blijven. Veel Chinese vrouwen konden als gevolg van dit schoonheidsideaal nauwelijks lopen en ze moesten aangepast schoeisel dragen: de lotusschoenen. In 1911 werd het inbinden van de voeten verboden door de Chinese regering. • - info uit Volkscultuur.nl
