What does this say about the condition of Olinka women? • The Olinka have opinions that women shouldn’t be educated, weren’t respected and were treated as tramps • It was an accurate view at the time. • This implies that the Olinka women were more respected, and that they were seen as actual human beings, not second class citizens

  2. Why doesn’t Nettie like the Olinka’s attitude toward Slavery? Why did Nettie want them to take some responsibility for the salve trade? • Nettie doesn’t like their opinions towards the slave trade because they don’t assume any responsibility towards it. Nettie wanted them to take some responsibility because it is partially their fault. Because the Olinka complied to the Americans and still continued to give their women and men in exchange for goods.

Also, that Alphonso is actually their step-father. • This changes Nettie and Celie’s lives because it is as if they have been living a lie with Alphonso.

  6. Why does Celie was that God “must be sleep?” What does she mean? • After finding out the truth about her family, Celie says God “must be sleep” because it is as if God not helping her after all the letters she wrote towards him.
