F R E E W A T E R T R E A T M E N T • Advantages of SODIS compared to common treatment methods: • SODIS saves your time, less work than boiling water. • SODIS does not change the taste of water unlike chemical products. • SODIS saves your money – once you are using SODIS consistently and correctly you will not need to spent money on diarrhoeal medication and fuel. • You can use your SODIS-bottle for storing your drinking water. • The re-use of plastic bottles keeps your environment clean. There is no cheaper way to treat your drinking water!  There is no more environmental friendly treatment method! How can you save money on chemicals, fuel or electricity and keep your environment tidy by recycling plastic bottles at the same time? • How to use SODIS • Wash the bottle well before the first time you use it. • Use the cleanest water you can get. If your water is dirty leave it in your bucket for some time to settle it down. Use a clean cup to fill your SODIS-bottle and leave the residue at the bottom. • Fill the bottle ¾ full with water. • Shake the bottle for 20 seconds. • Fill up your SODIS-bottle completely with water and close it. Only a small air bubble should be seen after turning around the bottle. • Lay down your SODIS-bottle in the sun, e.g. on your roof. • Leave your SODIS-bottle for at least 6 hours from morning till evening in the sun. If it is cloudy, expose your SODIS-bottle at least 2 days to the sun. • The water is now ready for drinking. • Keep your SODIS-bottle clean. Replace your bottle when it got too many scratches and is not clear any more. What is SODIS? SODIS is a water treatment method which uses the sun and means solar water disinfection. For SODIS you need a transparent PET-bottle, e.g. clear juice bottles or the bluish mineral water bottles (max 2 Litres). After filling this bottle with water you place it in the sun for at least 6 hours.
