  1. Road TripWord Problem Study • Mr. DiEmidio took his family and his favorite student on a road trip to the Outer Banks in North Carolina to see the world’s largest hammock. The price of gas was $2.55 per gallon, and he used 13 gallons of gas. The cost of food for everyone on the trip was $45.84. Tolls cost $16.00. (One bridge/tunnel was 21miles long and was expensive to cross.) The trip was a total of 313 miles. • What was the total cost of gas for the trip? • What was the total cost of gas, food, and tolls? • What was the total cost per mile for this trip? (Remember you are working with money.)

The Explanation 1) I multiplied the price of gas and the number of gallons TO GET the total cost of gas. 2) I added the cost of gas, food and tolls together TO FIND the total cost of the trip. 3) I divided the total cost of the trip by the number of miles and I FOUND the cost per mile. 4) SINCE I had many decimal places, I rounded to the hundredth BECAUSE I wanted money.
