  2. Southern Fishing got waaay out of its comfort zone and made a casual trip to upper New York state into the heart of the 1000 Island Region- a smallmouth bass haven. Our primary area of looksee was the Alexandria Bay area which is also where the St. Lawrence Seaway comes in from the Atlantic to the Great Lakes. Now to say the temperatures were a little colder than Alabama, our home base, is a tad understated. The water temperature was a chilly 36 degrees and the air temps went from 32 to 9 degrees below F (with wind most always and snow flurries sometimes). So obviously, this time of year, February, is NOT primetime smallmouth or largemouth fishing. June is more like it for serious fishing. However, we did manage to dip a hook and admire the clarity of the water and the beauty of the area. Rocks make up the dominant structure with weeds for some under-fished largemouth fishing in shallow areas. The scene we fished reminded me of Lake Martin and Smith Lake in Alabama. But, the topic of this slideshow is the 1000 Island Bait Store that we discovered. The folks there are very friendly and the store is pretty well stocked. You can visit their website at http://www.tibait.com/. Hope you enjoy our short tour. Ronnie Mac Southern Fishing News CLICK TO ADVANCE TO EACH NEW SLIDE
