  3. More About Habitats • 6 Main types of habitats • Grassland/Savanna • Temperate Forests • Tropical Rainforests • Deserts • Polar Ice • Tide pool

  4. Grassland/Savanna • Areas where vegetation is dominated by grasses and other plants. • Occur naturally on all continents except Antarctica • Woody plant, bushes, trees • Does not provide good hiding because of lack of trees and wide range of visible land

  5. Temperate Forest • Broadleaf forests that occur in the mid-latitudes in areas of high rainfall • High rainfall (min. 2-3 m/year) • Proximity to ocean • Occur where mountain ranges are close to the coast • Notable for trees of massive proportion

  6. Tropical Rainforest • Generally found near the equator • Average of 25mm of rain an hour • Leafy trees • High rainfall/ Poor soil • Home to 2/3 of all living animals and plants

  7. Deserts • Receives little precipitation • Annual precipitation of less than 250 mm • Take up 1/3 of the earth’s land surface • High temperatures during the day/ Low temperatures at night time • Extremely low humidity

  8. Polar Ice • High latitude region • Covered with ice • Mainly water ice • Low surface temperatures • North pole and South pole

  9. Tide pool • Rocky pools by oceans that are filled with seawater • Can either be small and shallow or deep • Formed as a high tide comes in over a rocky shore. • Isolated pools
