  3. SCHEDULE & STATUS • The Buck is complete! • Expediting materials for mold • Order for carbon fiber placed and scheduled to arrive in December • All chassis parts modeled and materials ordered Model: FSAE by James Hadley 10/19/05 University of Utah Formula SAE Photo: FSAE 10/21/05

  4. UPDATES • Researching a different setup for front bulkhead • Modifications to Buck to start immediately to incorporate front bulkhead changes • Suspension Dynamic Simulation Started in Lotus Software • Suspension Modeling to be Completed by Next Update University of Utah Formula SAE

  5. CFP CONSIDERATIONS • CHASSIS • *Carbon Fiber Monocoque*(w/ rear tube frame chassis) • Steel Tube Frame Chassis (Too heavy) • Aluminum panel • Fiberglass panel • SUSPENSION • *A-Arm Type* • Beam Axle (Too heavy) • Swing Arm • Trailing Axle University of Utah Formula SAE

  6. CFP CONSIDERATIONS • Create a hybrid of 2003 and 2005 car • Identify advantages and disadvantages from both years for 2006 Model: 2005 Monocoque Chassis 11/18/04 Model: 2004 Car 2/15/04 University of Utah Formula SAE

  7. POSSIBLE CFP • CHASSIS • *Carbon Fiber Monocoque With A Rear Steel Tube Frame • Lightweight • Material Resources • Ease of Construction • Working with both composites and steel. • Experience with composites for use in industry • Composite layup process with construction of a buck, mold, and final monocoque University of Utah Formula SAE

  8. POSSIBLE CFP • SUSPENSION • Front= Pull Rods with Dampers and A-Arms • Lightweight • Industry Standard • Common Racing Industry Use • 2005 Design University of Utah Formula SAE

  9. POSSIBLE CFP • SUSPENSION • Rear= Push Rods with Dampers and A-Arms • Lightweight • Alternate Design, but Equal in Function • Packaging Purpose (Engine Plates) • 2003 Design University of Utah Formula SAE

  10. POSSIBLE CFP • Suspension • Highly Critical to Function of Car • A-Arm Lengths and Mounting Points • Spring Mounting Points • Implementations of Pull-Rod and Push-Rod Designs • Clean Packaging for Adjustment and Reliability University of Utah Formula SAE

  11. PRESENTATION SUMMARY • Currently ahead of schedule • BUCK COMPLETE • EXPEDITING MOLD MATERIALS • Updates • Bulk Head Consideration • Suspension Dynamic Models • Solid Works Models Almost Complete • CFP identified and moving forward • Carbon Fiber Monocoque with a Rear Steel Tube Frame • Suspension Setup (Computer Simulation or Actual A-Arms) University of Utah Formula SAE
