  2. how did it begin? When did it begin? • Prehistoric “doctors”: 25,000 BC • The first “healers” were chronicled in cave paintings in what is now France. The paintings were radiocarbon-dated as far back as 27,000 years ago. people used plants for medical purposes. This is the first recorded instance of what eventually became into the first medical knowledge base, passed down through many tribes.

What do physicians do? • Physicians diagnose and treat human sickness, diseases and injuries. • They perform analysis of patient histories, physical exams, and interpret diagnostic tests. • They care for patients going through life-threatening situations and severe sickness. • Physicians use accepted methods of medical treatment, such as pharmaceutical agents and surgical procedures.

  5. What are the working conditions and hours for physicians? • Many physicians work full time. Others work long, irregular, overnight hours and shifts • Traveling wise many physicians go back and fourth from their offices and hospitals. • Physician Assistants usually work 40 hours a week. • They can work weekdays, shifts, and/or holidays.

What are the educational requirements? • College degree followed by a four-year degree as a doctor of medicine or a doctor of osteopathy from an accredited school. • Pass an examination for state licensure given by Board of Medical Examiners and aNational Medical Licensure Examination • one year of supervised patient care training, called residency • Resident needs at least three years of supervision after medical school to be recognized in a specialty. • An in-depth examination is required at the end of the residency training to become certified by the board of examiners.

The growing and aging population is expected to enhance the overall Physician Job Outlook as consumers continue to seek high levels of care that uses the latest technologies, diagnostic tests, and therapies. Many medical schools are increasing their enrollments based on perceived higher demand for physicians.

Job growth occurs because of the continued expansion of healthcare-related industries. The growing and aging population is expected to drive overall growth in the demand for physician services as consumers continue to seek high levels of care that uses the latest technologies, diagnostic tests, and therapies. Some medical schools are increasing their enrollments on the basis of a perceived higher demand for physicians.
