  1. The main types of fillers for cushions and bench pads. One thing that people care is how cushions feel on them when they sit down on a sofa or a bench as people tend to spend a major part of their time indoors. A seat is a long-term investment and so you will want a filling that will remain intact for the longest time possible .The cushion can be regarded as a skeleton as it supports the colorful outer covering. The cushion or bench pad filling can consist of polyester, foam, feather or a combination of these materials. Below is a list of the most popular materials that are used to fill cushions. 1. Foam Foam is the most popular material that is used to fill cushions and bench pads. It's durable, lightweight and resilient properties makes it firm, and when pressed it returns to its original position. Low-density foam is light and has a medium density. It, however, tends to degrade faster compared to high-density foam. A memory foam is mainly used by people who have muscle and joint pains as it conforms to the body. There is a type of foams in the market which is labeled as "High-resilient Density". This means that the material is resilient to wear and tear and can last longer. 2. Feathers Cushions which are feather-filled are best for folks who prioritize softness in a seat. Feathers are the inexpensive option; people use duck or bird feathers as filling. However, feathers might not dry if the cushions accidentally get wet although one can employ the use of waterproof covers. Cushions are wrapped in feather-proof casings to save you feathers from water spills. The cushions also require regular plumping to restore their original look. Feathers are often mixed with fibers and are perfect for those people who like a seat sinking in as they sit down. 3. Polyester Polyester is a good choice for customers on a budget. It's not as costly as other types of materials and is available in different densities. A soft polyester is smooth, long-lasting and bouncy. Faux down polyester is said to be "limp" and does not bounce when you sit down. It's a good alternative for those people who are allergic to feather cushions. Cluster polyester is the most durable type of polyester filling. 4. Batting The use of batting is employed in foam cushions to keep the filling smooth and prevent it from slipping out. Batting is available in two thicknesses: 25.5 Oz and 42 ounces. It is mainly made of cotton or polyester. The Cotton batting may poke through the cushion covering it. If this is an issue to you, consider a cotton-polyester combo. Wool batting is needled and layered shape. Wool batting is also available in layered and needled form and it's used to cover couch springs due to its toughness. Layered wool degrades fast, so it isn't always best option to be used in couches. There is a wide variety of fillers for cushions and pads on a budget that will suit your needs depending on the shape and size of your seat or bench.
