  4. No Internet or Network connection?? • Check to see if your cable is plugged in • Is it plugged in a phone or network jack? • Is the cable plugged into your NIC? • Is there a light on the back of your NIC? • Try restarting your computer!!

  5. Click on movie to right Click on movie to right Dirty mouse? Got a CD/floppy stuck?

  6. Monitor Problems • Make sure it’s plugged into a power outlet • Make sure the VGA cable is plugged into your computer. • Are there bent pins at the end of your VGA cable?

  7. Saving and deleting your documents • Places to save • Hard drive • Floppy disk • CD-ROM • Network • Ways to delete • Right click and scroll to delete • Click and drag to trash can

  8. Creating Shortcuts • Right click the program, drag and release on desktop. Choose create shortcut here. • Some programs allow you to left click and drag with the shortcut being created automatically.

  9. Adding and Removing Programs • To add simply follow instructions from the software manual. • To remove programs go to start, control panel, add and remove programs, choose the program you wish to remove and then hit the remove button.

  10. System Properties • This will allow you to view what your operating system is, processor speed, registration information, and amount of RAM. There are several ways to check your system properties: • Right click on my computer and click on properties • Go to start, setting, control panel, system

  11. Changing your screen saver • Right click on your desktop, go to properties, click on screen saver tab.

  12. Checking Proxy Settings • Open Netscape • Go to edit and scroll down to preferences • Go to advanced, then proxies • On right hand side select Manual proxy configuration and click the view button • Beside http type proxy.nls.k12.la.us (or your school).lee.k12.nc.us • Make sure your port is 80, click ok

  13. Installing a printer? • Follow directions that come with the printer! • No directions? Add it manually. Go to start menu/settings/printers. DC on “Add a printer” • Unless you are connecting to a network printer, choose “local printer” • When prompted for printer software, use your driver diskette or CD • No driver? Try www.hp.com or www.epson.com

  14. PC Suggestions  Dell  Pentium Processor 4 > 1.7-2.0 GHZ  Hard drive > 40GB  Memory > 256-512MB  Monitor > 17” (Flat screen?)  Tower vs. Desktop? • Floppy drive and CD-ROM are usually standard. Suggest purchasing a CDRW • DVD-RW? • 56K Modem if you are planning to surf the Internet • Cable modem or DSL?  Windows 2000 SP3, Windows XP SP1  Printer? HP!!  Laptop? Dell P4 > 1.5 GHZ
