  5. Homelessness Project • Read the Soloist book. • Service Learning- learn about the problems of homelessness and poverty. • Experts Evaluate them.

  7. Shantytown 2010 Simulation to raise awareness and money for people in Poverty

Weekly Volunteering • 4 Non-Profit Agencies- 2 food pantries, 1 nursing home, and 1 school for special needs kids. • Student Comments: • i learned how much patience some of the staff have to have when working with older people. i want to continue to learn how i can get to know the people there and how we can have fun with them • I learned that everyone is not as fortunate and that helping them makes a difference. I also learned that helping those who help the less fortunate can really mean something to them and that they will feel less stressed.

Student Reaction • i learn there are many more ways to communicate with a person other than just having conversations with them, you can use machine, touch and etc. • I learned that not everybody can have what I have. Sometime people need more help than others. I want to continue to learn how can help out more, what other thing I can do to help poeplethats in need

Assignment • Pick an Issue- such as (Crime, Unemployment, Poverty, etc.) and research the issue. • Volunteer on a political campaign. • Collaborate with experts where you volunteer. • Develop a Solution to the Issue based on your research and collaboration. • Present your Solution to the Community.
