  1. IMAGE SERVICES WHAT ARE THEY AND HOW DO YOU USE THEM?

  2. Image SERVICES • A way to share raster and image data using ArcGIS Server • An image service provides access to raster data (imagery, LiDAR) through a web service • Clients can access these services via desktop, web browser, or mobile applications and browsers What can be published as an image server? • Mosaic dataset - geodbused to manage a collection of raster datasets (images) stored as a catalog and viewed as a mosaicked image • Mosaic layer • Raster dataset – such as TIFF, JPEG 2000, Esri Grid, and MrSid • Raster layer • LiDAR data

  3. Image SERVICES Who should uses image services and WHY? • Anyone can use them! • Quick easy access to large amounts of data • Eliminates need to download or store raw imagery

  4. DASC Image services • FSA NAIP Imagery • Natural color - 2003, 2004, 2005 • Natural color & CIR - 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012 • Statewide Imagery • 2002 B&W • Local Government Imagery • Digital Raster Graphics • LiDAR • Hillshade • More coming soon!

  8. Accessing DASc Image SERVICES

  9. Accessing DASc Image SERVICES Layer files – contains pointer to the location of the data Eliminates need to connect via GIS Services

  10. ArcgisServices directory • List of available ArcGIS web services

  11. Arcgis onlinehttp://kansasgis.maps.arcgis.com • Image services can also be shared using ArcGIS Online

  12. Image service caching • Improves the performance of image draw time, create the fastest possible service containing image data • Caching – the server pregenerates tiles at different scale levels, which can be pushed out faster than processing the input from the mosaic dataset or the raster dataset each time a request is made from ArcGIS for Server • An image service cache is not serving imagery that is processed on the fly—it is preprocessing the imagery to create the cached tiles, then serving the cached tiles
