  2. Standard: M8N1. Students will understand different representations of numbers including square roots, exponents, and scientific notation. Element: g. Simplify, add, subtract, multiply and divide expressions containing square roots. Essential Question: How do I multiply and divide square roots?

  3. Multiplying and Dividing expressions containing radicals What is a radicand? The number under the radical or square root symbol. 2. What must you do to multiply fractions? You multiply the numerators and you multiply the denominators. Then you look at your answer to see if it can be simplified. Same is true when multiplying and dividing radical expressions. Except you multiply integer time integer and radicand times radicand and simplify.

  4. Simplify each of the following:

  5. Good job! Let’s practice some more! Simplify showing all work!

  6. Now, let’s do some dividing… Do you see a pattern? How do we divide radicals?

  7. More dividing…

  8. How do we multiply and divide radical expressions?
