Street Pastors Thank you for listening! Normally that’s what we do!
Questions for you… • Have you ever wished there was someone looking out for your family and friends on the street and in the community? 2. Would you like our city to be a safe place to grow up in and a safe place to grow old in and a place where the vulnerable are protected and where God is visible on the streets ?
We are on duty… …Either as a street pastor or prayer pastor …Once a month (weekly if at a school) …Once we have done some training …In a team …Covered by prayer …with a vision to see our city loved, safe and ‘a good place to grow up in and a good place to grow old in’ – Zech 8:4,5 (The Message) …knowing 12,000 other street pastors are also making a difference!
When are we out and praying? • Night time – weekends 10pm-4am • Early evening – Sat 6pm-10pm • Day - Schools – some mornings, afternoon, events – usually 2.30pm – 4pm term time
So what have we achieved? • Contact with 11,000 people - 5% Soton population • Completed 1000 patrols – 29, 500 vol hours • Cared for on average 42 people a week • Travelled over 22,000 miles- Sydney Australia and back! (av speed 0.7mph!) • Saved lives and made a real difference
Proud of the church Congratulations on reaching your 1000th patrol, Southampton Street Pastors! As Police and Crime Commissioner, I am proud to be able to fund your vital work keeping people across Southampton safe. It's wonderful that such support and care is given by volunteers." Simon Hayes, Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight
What do the Council say? Congratulations, I am so proud of your achievements. You have my complete admiration, you all do a fantastic job and so many people are very grateful…. Well done. Phil Bates Licensing Manager
Our city is calling us, the church… • With 24 people, Millbrook could have their own community patrol • With 8 people, the city centre could have a community patrol every week • With 8 people a new school could have a patrol • With 4 people existing gaps in night time patrols could be filled • With 6 people, the university could have a new patrol
How can we as church respond? The city is proud of street pastors and the church has been asked by the city to help in Millbrook with our community patrols to heal relationships. • We want to respond and be part of a solution • What if we all gave a few hours a month to volunteer and/or pray? Just imagine… • We can show the love of Jesus by practically caring and being present in our communities • Together we can make a difference
What the police say "Many congratulations to all of the Southampton Street Pastors who this weekend broke the highly impressive record of 1000 patrols. Each time your teams are out and about in our communities they feel safer and the support you offer everyone, both visitors and residents, is first class. It is not just the pubs and clubs but wider into the heart our city; being there to offer a listening ear or wise words of advice. The work of Mandy and the team is one of the best examples of working together to make our communities safer and protect the vulnerable. Thank you for myself and all of the officers and PCSOs across Southampton. It is great working with you all." All the very best. Supt James FULTON
